• At Waiariki we are proud of our cultural heritage. The foundation of our bi-culturalism is Tangatarua, a meeting house.

The name Tangatarua when literally translated means "two people". This signifies the joining together of the tangata whenua, the indigenous people, and all other people whatever their cultural origin.

Inside Tangatarua the elaborate carvings, both traditional and contemporary, record the genealogy of both the Maori and European cultures which form the core of the Waiariki community.
